Maintaining a Sense of Connection!

Maintaining a Sense of Connection!

The last year has been quite challenging for the residents and team at the Sherwood House in Duncan, British Columbia. The sudden and unprecedented challenges of the pandemic brought massive changes to our tight-knit independent retirement community.

Everyone thrives on human connection – in the Spring of 2020, this abruptly came to a halt while we all wrestled with the unknown.  We rose to the challenge and through the compassionate and proactive efforts of all members, from residents to employees, proved just how resilient we can be.

Over time and through hard work, countless pivots and with the understanding of everyone in our community, Sherwood House adapted experiences, activities and events that enriched the quality of life for the residents whilst conforming to the rules of social distancing. Group activities may be a touch smaller in size, there’s increased mindfulness around space, and we may only be seeing just half of everyone’s faces but we’ve adapted.

It’s clear through the eyes of our residents that gratitude is there. We are so thankful for the ability to stay safely connected, even during the most challenging times.

Despite these trying times, we persevered and have reason to celebrate. Our residents and team members recently received their COVID-19 vaccinations! While social distancing and mask-wearing are still in place, this small “win” is a beautiful reminder that there is indeed light at the end of the tunnel.
